Transfer Talk: Lauren Leaving, Czeching out MLS, Neill’s Nightmare

dwight-yorke.jpgIt is that time of year again when the rumors are hot and heavy and fiction becomes reality. We’ll do our best to help you stay on top of all the latest, greatest and lamest winter transfer window news. Here are some Grade A nibbles from the football transfer world today.

Determined to finagle their way into the UEFA Cup next season, Portsmouth is going about building a mini-Arsenal. Manager Harry Redknapp has put in an offer to bring Arsenal defender Lauren into the fold and to reunite him with former Gunners Sol Campbell and Kanu. No word yet if he is also interested in trying to get Arsene Wenger on a transfer too.

The American-born, Italian-bred young gun Giuseppe Rossi has been loaned from Manchester United to Serie A side Parma for the rest of the season. The 19-year-old had been loaned out to Newcastle. The kid needs to play in order to develop. Whether or not he’ll get the minutes at Parma remains to be seen.

Two days ago Gabriel Heinze was not leaving Manchester United. Yesterday he had his bags packed for AC Milan. Today he is staying in Manchester. Tomorrow he’ll probably be going to MLS. The next day he’ll be living with Owen Hargreaves in a jungle in Brazil. The transfer period is just that fun.

Speaning of Owen Hargreaves, he might be staying at Bayern Munich forever or until we hear tomorrow that he will be headed to Manchester United. He should just retire now and save some trees from becoming newspapers.

Chelsea failed in their bid to sign centre-back Tal Ben Haim from Bolton. I failed home economics in seventh grade and still have gone on to fame and fortune. Chins up, Chelsea. Failure is a part of life.

Score a hat trick and you will be rewarded handily. That is the message we can learn today from Javier Saviola, who has been offered a deal to stay at Barcelona a little while longer. This is an about face for Barca who have treated Saviola like an expendable commodity in previous seasons. Saviola, like everyone else in the world, has also been linked to Juventus.

I have no idea where Massimo Oddo is going to end up, but wherever it is there better be a disco nearby.

Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt wants to Liverpool until he dies or until he gets a killer offer somewhere else. Whichever comes first.

After 33 years on this planet, the Czech ace Patrik Berger wants to come to the United States, but will MLS welcome the Aston Villa player into the fold? Sit on the edge of your seat because we should know in the next few weeks.

Alan Curbishley has completed the signing of Calum Davenport from Tottenham to bolster his defense in West Ham’s bid for Premiership survival. Curbishley will also sign Aussie defender Lucas Neill who reportedly has turned down a “dream” move to Liverpool. If it really is a dream move why the fuck would you turn it down for the nightmare that is West Ham?

Roberto Ayala is on his way from Valencia and could be heading for Liverpool, according to reports, which likely will turn out to not be true but are fun nevertheless.

Finally, Sunderland striker Dwight Yorke, shown in the picture practicing his moves, has partied in every country in the world and the next stop on his tour could be Toronto where he would play for the MLS expansion club when he isn’t busy serving as the center filling of a hot female sandwich.
