Transfer Talk: No Coach Is Safe.
By: chris | May 18th, 2009
Continuing Serie A’s reign as the league where gaffers switch employment more frequently than temps, a coach swap has been discussed between Roma and Juventus which would see Luciano Spalletti head up to Torino for black and white scarves and Claudio Ranieri return back home to the Eternal City. Well phase one is in effect as The Tinkerman is being canned right as this sentence is spilling across the page.
And continuing the – pardon – tinkering on Serie A sidelines: Carlo Ancelotti is still going to Chelsea and Marco Van Basten will take his lack of self-belief all the way to the Rossoneri dugout. Though he’s effectively doused the blazing rumors by dashing out of a dinner with Milan’s suits through a restaurant window.
* – If you pay attention to Serie A “news”, the volume and sheer absurdity of stuff that happens over dinners involving Milan’s directors is downright comedic. I suspect the Italian press has conspired.
Also on the coaching front Real Madrid have passed a note along through an intermediary asking if Arsene Wenger would be interested in seeing them to the spring dance. Arsene bypassed both the “Yes” and “No” boxes to tick off “Maybe”, but he’s understandably thrilled with the chance to head up the Real Madrid Castilla.
The senior side’s a nice bonus too.
If being too rubbish for Real Madrid wasn’t enough, Julien Faubert sealed his one-way ticket back to West Ham by indulging himself a siesta during the Villarreal match on the weekend. Not like it was a title decider or anything.
And what with all the gross income Real will lose from Faubert’s shirt sales, they’re only going to bid about £60m for Kaka.
According to Real fanzine Marca, Manchester City are looking to spend about 40 ‘kilos’ on Gonzalo Higuain. That seems a bit much considering today’s street rate. And who’s going to need all that blow? Ah, nevermind: air purification.
Zlatan was hit by the acute syndrome known as titleeuphoriaitis, claiming “we [Inter] will win everything” next year on the weekend before checking the ol’ heart rate and musing “anything can happen” this morning.
Tottenham, learning absolutely nothing from Liverpool, will look to sell David Bentley back to Blackburn for a substantial discount/closer to what he’s actually worth. Expect him to be back in a Spurs jersey in January ‘10.
After another hat trick this weekend, Edin Dzeko is the hottest thing in Europe and is lusted after by Milan, ManU, Chelsea, Arsenal and…umm…Sunderland.
And finally, everyone’s favorite Pole, Roger Guerreiroski, will expatriate himself to Rotterdam this summer to play for Feyenoord after Bayern, Ajax, PSG and Olympiacos all passed.

First time a Juventus coach has been sacked in 40 years….this was a Real Madrid or Inter move, not a Juve one. The management is disappointing.

I’m always curious about guys like Roger, and wonder how connected he’ll feel to the Polish national team once he’s playing his football elsewhere.
If he does leave then I hope he keeps playing for Poland, as that would make the whole thing feel a lot more legitimate.

“First time a Juventus coach has been sacked in 40 years”
That’s first time in 40 a coach has been sacked while a season is in session.
And Inter never sacked a coach with 2 games left, that I can remember.
Nope, this one is all you guys.
But you can still blame us if it makes you feel better.
I know you still blame us for getting caught juicing up players in the 90s and referee/transfer manipulations in the 2000s so I guess whatever makes you feel better…

Why on earth would Milan ever hire van Basten? I thought he pretty clearly proved this season with Ajax that he has no idea what he’s doing as a manager. Maybe he could be a player/coach since he’s younger than half the team?
