Transfer Talk: Roberto Carlos to Fenerbache, Scott Parker to West Ham
By: Bob | June 6th, 2007
The summer transfer season doesn’t take a break for international games. How else would newspapers and Web sites fill their pages? While countries from around the world are busy kicking it on the pitch Wednesday, clubs are busy signing new players and bidding adieu to others. Here are some of the highs and lows from today’s transfer talk.
Bob Carlos has been with Real Madrid since 1996 but come fall 2007 he will be calling Turkey home. The Brazilian defender has agreed to join Turkish champions Fenerbache where he will undoubtedly dazzle some with his free kicks and frustrate others with his diminishing foot speed.
For a reason that I can’t even explain, every time I read Scott Parker’s name I think about Peter Parker from Spider-Man. My mother really shouldn’t have done drugs while I was in the womb. The Newcastle captain and action hero now has a new home at West Ham where he may or may not be joined by a mystery signing.
West Ham have their Parker, but they aren’t going after any players from Everton. That comes straight from the Egg Man’s mouth.
You can go ahead and return your Figo Spurs jersey. Luis Figo has doused the flames of the very brief speculation that he would join Tottenham. Figo says he is sticking with Inter if he chooses to stay in Europe. Does that mean Australia, MLS and South Africa still have a shot at him? Let’s keep those rumors alive…
On second thought, rumors can lead to libel lawsuits. I’ll state for the record that Figo is not going anywhere.
VfL Bochum want to have Lukas Podolski on a one-year loan. The sound you just heard is Bayern Munich laughing. Why would they want to loan him out now that he can be paired with Luca Toni? Oh yeah, there are still those rumors about Miroslav Klose ending up with Bayern.
Speaking of Klose, or more accurately his club, Werder Bremen are reportedly eager to sign Alou Diarra from French champions Lyon. You can also add Didier Drogba to the list of those looking to raid Lyon. The Chelsea striker wants his club to sign winger Florent Malouda, a payer who some say has already signed with Arsenal.
Today’s silly rumor of the day has Frank Lampard leaving Chelsea for Juventus to join up with his former boss Claudio Ranieri.
I haven’t seen this anywhere else but apparently former Peruvian international Flavio Maestri is going to join the Columbus Crew. Or maybe he isn’t. Who knows…
Finally, the Brazilian youngster Kerlon may or may not end up at Middlesbrough where he will be pummeled by Premiership players if he tries his seal move.

I read that Klose is going to Bayern in 2008. That is a very trickey situation. Who is going to get squeezed out in 08 with Klose, Toni, and Podolski? Also, what will happen at Werder with Klose in 07. He will give it his all there I would imagine, but there is always going to be this lingering thought of him going to Bayern the whole year.
