Unusual Footballers Names
By: Bob | April 17th, 2007
When your parents name you Bob you are quick to latch on to Brazilian nicknames even if that does mean being called Bildo. You are also able to appreciate people who possess unique and unusual names. The football world is blessed with many examples of this. My all-time favorite is Thankgod Amaefule, a Nigerian who played for the Greek side PAOK. I can only imagine his mother’s first words after she gave birth to her son. Thank God.
The Guardian’s Knowledge section takes a look at some of the great and unusual names of footballers around the world. They have uncovered some gems. My favorites being:
Have-A-Look Dube – Njube Sundowns, Zimbabwe
Danger Fourpence – Caps United, Zimbabwe
Stephen Sunny Sunday – Polideportivo Ejido
Naughty Mokoena – South Africa
Osa Ice Cream Guobadia – SC Schwanestadt, Austria
Creedence Clearwater Couto – Lierse SK, Belgium
Bongo Christ – Congo
I’d nominate the Angolan player Loco to the list and I always giggle at the mere mention of Dean Windass.
Know of any unusual names of present or past footballers?

Since the SPL is thus far unrepresented, I will have to nominate Danny Invincible (Kilmarnock).
Also, Vitalis “Digital” Takawira, for maybe having a funnier real name (erectile disfunction drug) than nickname.

Interestingly, if you insert “Roberto Carlos” into the Brazil name generator, you get “Robertisco”. Someone should let him know.
Slightly off topic, but there was an American amateur basketball player named Johnny Nevermissashot (Native American nomenclature). Good for almost any sport.

Well, I mean now that he’s so well-known, you don’t think about it, but I’ll never forget the first day I heard of Kaka.
