Usain Bolt: The Newest Galáctico

If a team is looking at available free agents, they could do much worse than the fastest man in the world, even if he has no footballing skills to speak of. I mean, just think of how that would affect opponents playing the offside trap. Throw him ten yards in front of the last defender and he’ll still get that long ball over the top with acres of space to spare.

So that’s what Real Madrid have done, bringing in Usain Bolt, The Fastest Man in the World, to train with the club. Club of the Century, fastest man – it’s a relationship born in PR heaven.

“I have been invited to train with them, and be assured that I will go.”

“I think Raul and Van Nistelrooy are some of the best goal scorers ever. I’ve watched Van Nistelrooy from when he was with Manchester United, so I know he’s a great guy.”

There’s a terrible front runner joke somewhere in there, discuss amongst yourselves.

The chances Usain actually gets a serious look as a football player are between none and none, but who wouldn’t want to see him run out in an intrasquad scrimmage or even a friendly? At the very least it’d pack the stadium and keep the fans holding their breath every time he makes a run off the ball. I smell opportunity.
