Usain Bolt: The Newest Galáctico

By: chris | September 11th, 2008

If a team is looking at available free agents, they could do much worse than the fastest man in the world, even if he has no footballing skills to speak of. I mean, just think of how that would affect opponents playing the offside trap. Throw him ten yards in front of the last defender and he’ll still get that long ball over the top with acres of space to spare.

So that’s what Real Madrid have done, bringing in Usain Bolt, The Fastest Man in the World, to train with the club. Club of the Century, fastest man - it’s a relationship born in PR heaven.

“I have been invited to train with them, and be assured that I will go.”

“I think Raul and Van Nistelrooy are some of the best goal scorers ever. I’ve watched Van Nistelrooy from when he was with Manchester United, so I know he’s a great guy.”

There’s a terrible front runner joke somewhere in there, discuss amongst yourselves.

The chances Usain actually gets a serious look as a football player are between none and none, but who wouldn’t want to see him run out in an intrasquad scrimmage or even a friendly? At the very least it’d pack the stadium and keep the fans holding their breath every time he makes a run off the ball. I smell opportunity.

fastest man for 100m… many people can run fast for short distances, but in football you have to last 90 minutes. or at least a good 15 to be a super-sub.

thanks for another retarded article chris. you truly are “the biggest arsehole on the planet” , not the 100 other people you called so

The irony of this Muppet man’s name. First, he doesn’t realize this is a blog - A BLOG. Second, his point is complete bollocks. Third, he’s got no class. Brilliant.

    Speaking of no class….

It will be cool to see Usain train with the team. And how stupid it is to think that just because he runs the 100m (and 200m) the fastest, it means he has no stamina to run for 90 minutes. Idiotic.

Bolt is the fastest man in the world by far. Its true no one has seen him play soccer, but he is from jamaica and all the kids do there is run and play soccer.

I dont understand why he is being knocked for being a sprinter? sure he probably cant go 90 mins at 100% (who can) but assuming hes playing striker his game is about short fast runs and a lot of jogging.

Hes probably not a soccer god but im sure hes not a total spaz either. keep in mind hes a world class athlete.
