Vertical Soccer

This week’s entry in our collection of odd soccer games involves a sport that sadly has not caught on yet in mainstream culture. We were first introduced to the noble sport of Vertical Soccer a few years ago when it brought pedestrians to a standstill in Tokyo as part of an Adidas promotion. As you can see in the video above, the sport basically involves playing soccer while hanging from a billboard on 26-foot bungy cords. How this sport has failed to spread to all corner of the globe (or at least all corners of that one street) is beyond me. It has all the elements you would want from a game: acrobatic moves, window cleaners as athletes, and the very real possibility that the ropes will get twisted and one of the players will meet the same fate as Saddam Hussein.

I love how the end of the video announcer says "...in downtown Japan". Ah, love this nation of mine.
