Vintage Soccer Commercials
By: Bob | October 12th, 2007I stumbled upon this commercial featuring Maradona back in 1982. It is a different take on the famous Mean Joe Green advert from the 1980 Super Bowl and was well before the time when mentioning Maradona and coke meant an entirely different thing. It made me curious to see what other vintage soccer commercials from years gone by exist on the interwebs. Below are a few of the ones I have found.
Zico 1982 – Looks familiar doesn’t it? Apparently Coca-Cola rolled these things out during the 1982 World Cup. Do you remember if there were any others featuring soccer players?
Pele 1981 – Not to be outdone by their rivals, Pepsi had Pele pitching their teeth-rotting product in 1981.
Coke and a Smile 1970s - Give this kid a unibrow and an injury and he could almost be Claudio Reyna. Who knew that carbonated sugar could make you into a soccer star?
Hugo Sanchez 1980 - Even in Mexico Coke wiil give you a smile and mad skills.
George Best 1960s - In my next lifetime I want to be George Best even if it means wearing cheap aftershave.
Giorgio Chinaglia 1980 - You have to wait until the end of this low budget local commercial to see Chinaglia show off his amazing acting skills.
Ian Rush Acrington Stanley milk ad 1980s - Famous commercial from the UK in the early 1980s that briefly put Acrington Stanley on the map
Pele 1970s – The King did a number of Ray-O-Vac battery commercials in the 70s. Here is someone mocking one of them.
Alexi Lalas 1997 – It is hard to call something made a decade ago vintage, but when it involves David Beckham’s boss playing the dupe it has to be included.
Anyone else have links to any vintage soccer ads?

There’s this Brut 33 deodorant ad featuring boxer Henry Cooper and good old Kevin Keegan. Right at the end, Keegan threatens Cooper with the least convincing fist in the history of fighting.
