Viva World Cup

There is no shortage of World Cup competitions these days. Between the Homeless World Cup, the Beach Soccer World Cup, and the FIFA Interactive World Cup, you could spend almost all your waking hours following one tournament or another. Here’s another World Cup for your entertainment and in my opinion it is probably the best one of them all.
The VIVA World Cup begins on November 19 and includes non-nations and others to whom FIFA has not granted official status. This year’s tournament will be played in Occitania, which is an area that includes parts of France, Italy, Monaco and Spain. In addition to the host nation (for lack of a better word), the VIVA World Cup will also feature Monaco (confusing because I thought it was part of Occitania), Southern Cameroons and Lapland (the artists sometimes called Samiland).
If you check out the official VIVA World Cup Web site, and you really must, you’ll see that flags of Rom and West Papua have been crossed out. Unfortunately those two teams couldn’t get their act together in time and had to unceremoniously bow out of the competition. The top-ranked non-aligned team is Northern Cyprus, which is hosting its own tournament in November, the Elf Cup, because of a disagreement with the people running the Viva World Cup.
A competition featuring countries that don’t exist and where there is turmoil even before the opening kickoff and where the winner’s trophy looks like a box for a bootle of booze. All I can say is viva the VIVA World Cup!
