Volkan Demirel’s YouTube-tastic Goalkeeping Blunder

By: Daryl | November 30th, 2009

I’ve probably said this before, but it’s as true now as ever: Goalkeepers can not be fond of YouTube. Take Fenerbahce keeper Volkan Demirel for example.

There was no crowd at this weekend’s Fenerbahce vs Kasimpasa Turkish Süperlig game as punishment for the recent pre-Istanbul derby trouble. So that means no one was there to witness Demirel’s absolute howler in the first minute of the game, and Fener’s subsequent 3-1 defeat.

Unfortunately, it was captured on video. And if it’s captured on video, it can be uploaded to YouTube. And if it’s uploaded to YouTube then everyone can see it. In fact, at time of writing 47,134 people have already seen the above video, and poor Demirel is on the front page of 101GG with the headline “Worst. Goalie. Ever.” Harsh. Especially since Demirel has made over 50 international appearances for Turkey.

So doesn’t matter how much Demirel enjoys David after Dentist or People Getting Punched Just Before Eating, because now YouTube hosts evidence of his above dropsy vs Kasimpasa. A dropsy he may have gotten away with, if not for YouTube.
