WAG of the Year Award for 2009 Already Decided

By: Daryl | January 15th, 2009

It’s not often I get chance to write a feelgood WAG story, so excuse me if I get a bit teary-eyed over this story sent to us by Off the Post.

In a nutshell: English defender Andy Lancaster found himself unemployed when his USL team the Atlanta Silverbacks went bust.

Rather than see her man with no defensive headers to make, Lancaster’s wife Mysti compiled a lovingly edited 10 minute “Best of Andy” and put it on YouTube as a sort of online CV/résumé, which was enough to secure Lancaster a move to Scottish First Division side Queen of the South.

I’ll let Lancaster tell you how it happened, via his quotes in Scottish paper the Daily Record:

“I was without a team and had a couple of offers in the States but I missed British football. I missed the passion and wanted to get back to that.

“The problem was I had been forgotten about by anyone who had known me.

“So that’s when the YouTube thing came about. I couldn’t even log on to a computer or do anything else but my wife put the package of me together and then posted it. So it’s all her fault.

“The reaction was immediate and incredible. I didn’t think much would come from it but within a week I was in Scotland.

“I got a phone call late on Thursday, flew out on Friday, trained with the lads on Monday and had a trial against St Mirren.

“I did well so the manager offered me a deal until the end of the season.

The best thing here is that Mysti isn’t some lazy layabout WAG who needed to put her man to work to keep her in diet pills. She’s apparently a successful tennis coach in Georgia, which is where she met Lancaster back when he played for the Silverbacks.

Judging from this video, she’s also a nifty editor. After watching 10 minutes of Lancaster winning header after header, tackle after tackle, it’s hard to shake the idea that the man is literally unbeatable. Extra credit to Mysti Lancaster for choice of music. I’m not the biggest Foo Fighters fan, but at least she resisted the temptation to go with you know what.

Ummm, if that “5% pleasure 50% pain” song isn’t playing, how am I supposed to know that I’m watching an individual highlight video? because last time i checked, there was actually a rule on the YouTube terms & conditions page that all compilations of highlights featuring a single soccer player must be set to that song

I wonder What Steve G WAG will do in this case. DEF Football Lady Of The Year. Can’t call her a WAG, since WAGS don’t have a job an spent most of the lifetime shopping.

Mustafa, you’re clearly doing it wrong.
