Wayne Rooney Needs to See This Commercial

Rooney agony NomisIf you’re a newish brand trying to crack the three stripe, swoosh and leaping-cat dominated market of football boots, then you need to come up with something a bit different. Like Nomis have with the video below, which takes aim at the more famous companies and the effects their products and their tyranny of endorsements can have on a player’s career.

Titled “Damn Boots,” it’s a little reminder that just because certain players are paid wheelbarrows of cash to wear certain boots, that doesn’t mean those boots are a good choice. They’re talking to you and your delicate metatarsals Wayne Rooney. See below.

Another novel part of the Nomis campaign is The Right Boot Store in Berlin. Basically the idea is that Berliners can go into the store and get a right boot for free. Then they test the right boot out in comparison to their (presumably swoosh, three stripe etc branded) left foot, and if they like it enough they go back to the store and buy the other one.

Clever.

But no use to poor old Titus Bramble I’m afraid, or anyone else with two left feet.

Hilarious that these are endorsed by Harry Kewell though... He had that whole foot thing not too long ago...

I have been a lifer when it comes to adidas boots... I loved the Copa Mundials and now wear the F50's. Nike boots never really fit me well, but i am glad there is another choice out there to consider! I would love to try a pair on here in the U.S. so i hope Nomis jumps the pond soon.
  • keatso, By descent I'm all kinds of Celt, including Scottish, plus French, with some Anglo-Saxon thrown in. By birth I'm American. I was named for the song "Annie Laurie." And I would be thrilled to be considered an honorary member of the Tartan Army, except when they play France. Unless France loses, in which case I'd rather celebrate with the Scots than drown my sorrows with the French. :-)

    Does that answer the question?

Nike boots are all style no substance; these are back to basics! BTW Laurie are you a Scot?
  • That is a really clever ad campaign.
