Weekend Junk Pile: Don’t Tase Me, Bro! (And Ljungberg’s First MLS Goal)

By: Laurie | April 4th, 2009

A few little items that caught my attention this week but weren’t worth a whole post.

To paraphrase an old joke,

Why do Columbus cops tase opposing fans?
Because they can.

Ouch.

Not that the cops haven’t been given reason by soccer fans. Remember that West Ham kerfuffle? (Video here.) And this guy?

No idea whether this was justified, but I will direct you to an some thoughts on the Toronto FC page: Hooligans or Sensationalist Media?

Just in case you forgot where you were

This is from before the S. Korea vs. N. Korea World Cup Qualifying match this week in Seoul, S. Korea. Those are S. Korean flags. Just in case anybody got amnesia and forgot where they were for a second.

I caught the second half of this game entirely by accident, and found myself surprisingly entertained as a neutral, particularly given that the only goal didn’t come till the 88th. Both these teams wanted it bad. There is some serious history between the teams, and between the countries.

And the interesting thing about the 1-0 result for S. Korea is that it means there’s a fairly solid chance that both countries could end up in S. Africa in 2010.

Freddie Ljungberg scored his first goal in MLS for Seattle today against TFC. Sweet and well-playaed if unspectacular.

So the race is on: Which European designated player underwear model is going to have more of an impact on his team?

And finally, as far as goal celebrations go… A haircut?

Yup, exactly what I think of when I get happy.

Or maybe he’s a true friend and checking for nits.

That would be Wayne Rooney and John Terry in England’s win.
