Weekend Junk Pile
By: Laurie | November 9th, 2008Once again, our collection of really fun things that we can’t just throw away, but which weren’t quite important enough to give them their own posts:
The loneliness of being Arsene
This photo was apparently from Friday, the day before the all-important Arsenal game against Manchester United.
Rough week for Arsene, but at least he still had the skills required to balance a ball on top of his foot. And things looked a lot brighter on Saturday after Arsenal beat Man Utd 2-1.
Mama, when I grow up, I want to be 19th!
This is a screenshot from the Serie B table on ESPN Soccernet. As you can see, 20, 21 and 22 get relegated, 17 and 18 do a relegation playoff…
But what about lucky Number 19? That’s apparently the one that gets to stay up in Serie B. You know, just to keep things from getting boring at the bottom.
This is what happy looks like if you’re from Bahrain:
Not sure why I liked this photo so much. Perhaps it’s that soccer bloggers and photo folks can be a little Eurocentric. Perhaps it’s the pure joy. Whatever the reason, it’s fun to have this photo of the players from Bahrain’s al-Muharraq as they do some celebrating in the AFC Cup second leg final.

Odd odds of the week:
I went searching for the odds that Beckham will come back to the Galaxy after his stint in Milan. Didn’t find that, but I did find the odds that the Beckhams’ former housekeepers (apparently the ones who were caught stealing their things and selling them on eBay) will be on — and then win — Celebrity Big Brother 2009.
500-1. In case you were wondering. Only Tiger Woods (1000-1) and The Queen (5000-1) got higher odds.
Pay attention to the very end
(This isn’t a YouTube video, it’s a screenshot. Don’t bother trying. It won’t play.)
There’s a guy in France who does really clever parody videos about the Raymond Domenech situation in the France National Team. At the end of the most recent was this (roughly translated) hilarious little throw-away:
“As a bonus, get the newest “I Learn to Whistle” CD: “I learn to Whistle…the Marseillaise.”
Get it? Get it?
(Well, fine. Maybe you have to be a France fan for this to be really funny. But I personally nearly ruptured something laughing.)
