Weekend Predictions: Arsenal to Beat Liverpool, Man Utd to Win CWC
By: Daryl | December 19th, 2008
Last weekend’s predictions did not go well. Let’s say no more than that. So better luck this weekend? We’ll see.
Some big games, including the FIFA Club World Cup Final. Technically the biggest game in club football. Even though it isn’t. Read on to see the games worth watching this weekend, and some entirely unreliable predictions for how they’ll finish.
Saturday, December 20th
Real Madrid vs Valencia (La Liga)
Big game for both teams. Second placed Valencia need to keep Barcelona in their sights (Barca eight points clear right now) while sixth place (!) Real are going to look very silly if they fall any further.
Odds: Real Madrid evens, draw 12-5, Valencia 11-4
Prediction: 2-2 draw that won’t please anyone. Except me, because I need a prediction to come good.
Boca Juniors vs San Lorenzo (Argentina Primera)
Part of the three way play-off to decide the Apertura winner. San Lorenzo have already beaten Tigres, so a win here gives them the title. A Boca win leaves them just needing to beat Tigres in the final game, a draw and it gets complicated.
Prediction: 1-1
Bonus Prediction: It gets complicated.
Sunday, December 21st
Arsenal vs Liverpool (English Premier League)
Arsenal seem to turn it on against the big sides, and Liverpool have wobbled a bit lately (eg vs Hull) without actually falling down. So Arsenal will take this, but they can still forget about a title challenge.
Odds: Arsenal 13-10, Draw 11-5, Liverpool 11-5
(More Premier League odds at Bet Offside)
Prediction: 2-1 to Arsenal
Bonus Prediction: If it’s a cold day, Robbie Keane has a 35% chance of getting piles.
Man Utd vs LDU Quito (Club World Cup Final)
Fergie’s men are heavy favourites, at least according to the bookies. But don’t understimate LDU Quito. Winning the Copa Libertadores is a tough job. I still see Man Utd taking the trophy though.
Odds: Man Utd 1-2, Draw 5-2, LDU 5-1 (after 90 mins)
Prediction:: 3-1 to Man Utd
Bonus Prediction: Wayne Rooney to finish with one goal, two assists, and three stamps.
PSV vs Feyenoord
Usually two giants of Dutch football, but this game is 4th vs 12th. New PSV boss Huub Stevens is fighting for his job.
Odds: PSV 4-7, Draw 13-5, Feyenoord 4-1
Prediction: 2-0 to PSV.
