Weekend Predictions: Bad News for Scolari
By: Daryl | January 9th, 2009
Weekend predictions is back, all warmed up after a brief winter break. Most of Europe’s top leagues are back in action too (still no Bundesliga, they’re busy training in sub-zero temperatures), so here are three games to watch this weekend, and my reliably unreliable predictions. Starting with…
Man Utd vs Chelsea, Sunday, January 11th, 4pm
This is big. A Man Utd win would put them just one point behind Chelsea with two games in hand. Bad news for Scolari. Even a draw would offer Liverpool (away to Stoke) the chance to open up a five point lead at the top, and still leave Man Utd primed to overtake the Blues. So Chelsea really need a win at Old Trafford.
Odds: Man Utd 13-10, Draw 11-5, Chelsea 5-2
Prediction 2-1 to Utd, in a game worth watching.
Bonus Prediction: Cristiano Ronaldo won’t be driving the team coach.
Roma vs Milan, Sunday, January 11th, 8:30pm
Could be David Beckham’s marketing Milan debut. If it is, then I predict he’ll make some sort of impact, likely from the bench. But if it’s not, then try your best to ignore the Beckham-mania and enjoy seeing two of Italy’s big boys go at each other.
Odds: Roma 13-8, Draw 2-1, Milan 6-4
Prediction: 1-1
Bonus Prediction: Somewhere out there, MLS executives will be watching with fingers crossed for no injuries.
Bordeaux vs PSG Sunday, January 11th, 9pm
Two points separate second placed Bordeaux and fourth placed PSG, with all of them trailing first placed … you guessed it … Lyon. Bordeaux will be motivated to keep Lyon in view, PSG will be motivated by an opportunity to join the chasing pack. I see home advantage giving Bordeaux the edge.
Odds: Bordeaux 10-11, Draw 21-10, PSG 14-5
Prediction: 2-0 to Bordeaux
Agree/disagree with those predictions? And any other games we should be watching this weekend?

i think that if roma wins, the italian press will attempt to put spalletti in exile, for DEFYING them and defeating the great david beckham… i can see the headlines now
“Roma boss enjoys torturing animals and killing the dreams of orphans”
ROMA — After mercilessly defeating David Beckham, evil Roma manager, Luciano Spalletti, announced that, among other heinous crimes, he loves nothing more than destroying the environment and refusing to give money to the needy…Posted from

I don’t think Roma will take anything from Milan. They just aren’t up to it. I doubt Beckham will make any real impact on the match, unless there’s a 93rd minute free kick for the win and he makes it, aside from that I imagine he’ll sort of jog up and down the flank and that’s about it. I’m hoping to see some Dinho/Kaka magic though!

I Agree with the predictions. Roma-AC Milan match is an italian classic, Beckham has no place in this.
