Weekend Quiz Answers: Who Were the African-Born Players?

By: Laurie | May 10th, 2009

First, if you haven’t done your quiz, stop by this post and make your guesses. Then come back here for the answers.

Well done on the quiz, folks. 12/13 guessed. And don’t let it concern you just because, for the second time, you didn’t guess one of my favorite players. This won’t affect my week. Or anything.

Wayne was yet again our top guesser with 9/13. Well done Wayne!

(But where is “Eros Miranda, Juve,” who used to come in and make such great guesses? We need somebody to give Wayne a run for his money! I guess everybody else will just have to work harder next time.) :-)

Player 1

Mohamed Zidan, born in Egypt, playing for Borussia Dortmund

What’s with all the comment requests for photos of Zidan shirtless? And more importantly, why could I not find any pictures of him in this state? You’ll have to settle for this one of the odd haircut.

Also, thanks a lot, people. Now my search history includes the phrase “Mohamed Zidan shirtless.” One more reason for me not to tick off the FBI and have my laptop confiscated.

Finder’s Badge: Wayne

Player 2

Alexandre Song, born in Cameroon, now playing for Arsenal

Also, photos of Song in that cap are all over the internet. Is it a personal favorite (and maybe a way to respond to those bad hair days), or was he just wearing it the one day everybody photographed him?

Finder’s Badge: Skander

Player 3

Yaya Toure, born in Côte d’Ivoire, now playing for FC Barcelona

Finder’s Badge: Sidhanth

Player 4

Patrick Vieira, born in Senegal, now playing at Internazionale

Yeah, so he plays for the France National Team. You got a problem with that?

Finder’s badge: Rob

Player 5

Seydou Keita, born in Mali, now playing for Barcelona

Finder’s Badge: Wayne (I should just copy that and paste it in everywhere, shouldn’t I?)

Player 6

John Obi Mikel, born in Nigeria, now playing for Chelsea

Finder’s Badge: Sidhanth

Player 7

Taye Taiwo, born in Nigeria, now playing for Olympique de Marseille

Alas! Alack! For the second time, nobody guessed Taiwo! I LOVE Taiwo!

Memorize this photo, boys and girls, because I’m going to serve it to you over and over again like yesterday’s broccoli until somebody eats it! Errr…gets it.

Player 8

Sulley Muntari, born in Ghana, now playing for Inter

Finder’s Badge: skander

Player 9

Salomon Kalou, born in Côte d’Ivoire, now playing for Chelsea

Is this picture not adorable? I thought it was adorable. But then again, I’m a Kalou fan.

Finder’s Badge: sidhanth

Player 10

Patrice Evra, born in Senegal (one of 25 kids!), now playing for Manchester United

Another one of my favorites, and another France NT player.

Finder’s Badge: Wayne

Player 11

Emmanuel Eboue, born in Côte d’Ivoire, now playing for Arsenal

Finder’s badge: Wayne

Player 12

Amine Chermiti, born in Tunisia, now playing for Hertha Berlin

Finder’s badge: skander

Player 13

Emmanuel Adebayor, born in Togo, now playing for Arsenal

No idea what the story is on the second photo. I just thought it was funny.

Finder’s Badge: Wayne

Well done to everybody! Come back next week for more Weekend Quiz fun.
