Weekend Quiz Answers: Who Were Those Champions?

This one was tougher than I thought it would be, since if you’re playing in Champions League you’re pretty much by definition a well-known player, but eventually 9 out of 11 did get guessed. (And you’ll die a little inside and say “D’oh!” when you see who the other two were.)

Eros miranda, juve was again our winner with 8/11, but the answers were pretty spread out this time and we had a lot of people offering up correct guesses.

Player 1

Denilson, Arsenal

I expect some applause here. Five players in Arsenal’s starting lineup were French, and instead I give you a Brazilian? We’re talking serious self-control.

Denilson was the last one to be correctly guessed. To be honest, I’d about given up, but Greg got his guess in right under the wire. Nicely done!

Player 2

Lucho Gonzalez, Porto

Well done to Rob, first to see Lucho.

Player 3

Amauri, Juventus

I wondered if anybody would recognize Amauri without the hair. The answer is apparently not. No correct guesses. (And now that you’re seeing the whole picture, you’re kicking yourself. I know you are.)

Player 4

Sergio “Kun” Aguero, Atletico Madrid

Congrats to Alex, first to see the Maradona baby-daddy.

Player 5

Juninho, Olympique Lyonnais

I kept waiting for Inara to stop by and guess Juni, especially since I swiped this photo from her Lyon blog. But she didn’t visit, and nobody else picked up on it. The color on this photo is off, so I could see how people would guess Mellberg, even though they don’t really look alike.

Player 6

Maicon, Inter

This one was a toughie and took two photos, but a pat on the back goes to Brief, first to see Maicon. (And I’m giving you the middle photo just because I liked it. These little figures always make me smile.)

Player 7

Nihat, Villareal

Congrats again to Brief, first to see Nihat.

Player 8

John Arne Riise, AS Roma

I tried to cut out the eyebrows as much as possible because they’re a giveaway, but without great success. Alex spotted Riise straight off.

Player 9

Patrice Evra, Manchester United

After my Arsenal and Lyon self-control… Well, I couldn’t help myself. Here’s my token Frenchman for the day. Congrats to Alex, first to see Evra.

Player 10

Petr Cech, Chelsea

I cut the photo to show the part of Cech most of us haven’t seen recently given the skull fractures and resulting headgear — his hair. Brief was not fooled and guessed him right away.

Player 11

Philip Lahm, Bayern Munich

Congrats to eros miranda, juve, first to see our token German.
