Weekend Quiz: League Loyalty

By: Laurie | April 25th, 2009

This quiz is all about loyalty. As in: Which players have spent their entire careers in only one country?

(I know the title says “League,” but given promotion/relegation etc. that’s not 100% accurate. But “Country Loyalty” just doesn’t have quite the same ring to it.)

Some caveats:

1) I tried to keep youth play in mind, but may have missed one or two.
2) Loans don’t count. As long as a player was owned by a club in the country in which he now plays, he counts for our purposes.
3) Technically, “loyalty” may not always apply. Some of these may more accurately be described as “has not yet had the opportunity to jump ship.”

As always, leave guesses in the comments. Answers tomorrow.

I am thoroughly disappointed in you that Paolo Maldini is not on your little list, even as a courtesy guess. No player has been more loyalty throughout the history of football :(

Maldini! How could I forget Maldini! (That’s what I get for doing these late at night.) As penance, I’ll stick a photo or two in the answers tomorrow.

Seriously. The guy not only played in one country for 31 years, he played for the SAME TEAM for that amount of time, including the Youth Team. I figured he was the inspiration for this post.

Maldini is not a player anymore, but living legend. Should not be included in this list. Separate questionnaire consisted of only one picture should be made, with people responding with correct last name. Those who will present his FULL ( he is Italian) name, will be venerated for a week around this blogpost. And no, I don’t know his full name.

Those are really obvious lips. I actually thought for SURE that somebody would have guessed them by now. I myself look at them and it’s like looking at an entire face, they’re so distinctive.

And come on, people, I’ve done mouths before! Is there something special about this mouth that makes you not want to guess?

Hint: The reason I did the lips is that I have used his eyes already in at least one and possibly two other quizzes.

Oh LOL I didn’t think I’d have to post three times, but I thought I should clarify – I’M not a guy. I didn’t mean to say Sergio Ramos isn’t. Too easy to misconstrue that one!
