Weekend Quiz: Name a Player Who…
By: Laurie | July 18th, 2009
We’re back with this week’s Weekend Quiz, and this one is mostly brought to you by Alexandre. (Except that his was, believe it or not, even harder than this one. So I may have eased it up a little bit. Because I love you.)
This quiz is just like one from a few weeks ago: “Name a player who…”
There are multiple answers to each question. The trick? You cannot name a player that somebody above you in the comments has already named. So, again, yes, it does pay to answer early.
As I said last time:
I’ll need your help in policing the answers. When I go to award points tomorrow, I’m not going to have time to research each and every response. So if I ask, “Name a player who scored an international goal after age 35,” and somebody answers “Lionel Messi,” point it out in to me in the comments.
(Okay, that one I would get on my own. But some of these may get kind of obscure.) In other words, I’ll be relying on those of you who love footy trivia even more than I do to help me out. Alternatively, if you give me links in your own answers that allow me to check them out easily, you will be my newest and bestest friend.
I every question, please give a full response (meaning list the clubs or whatever we’re asking for) so we can check it easily. Because these kinds of quizzes are a b**** to score.
Ready? Let’s give this a shot. As always, leave your responses in the comments. Answers/grading tomorrow.
Name a player who…
1…Has won the top division league in two (or more) different countries. –
2…Has won more Continental cups than Domestic leagues.
3…Has never played professionally in the country he was born in (the UK counts as one country).
4…Has played in two (or more) major derbies (i.e. Boca-River, Glasgow-Rangers, Barca-Real, Fener-Gala, Fla-Flu…).
5…Has played on both sides in one (or more) major derbies. (Extra point if you can name a player who has played both sides in more than one derby.)
6…Has managed the same club or country on two (or more) different occasions. (Extra point for each over two.)
7…Has been second in the top-division league in three (or more) different countries.
8…Has been the top goalscorer in the top division of the same country ten seasons (or more) after being the top goalscorer for the first time.
9…Has won a major international club trophy ten years (or more) after winning it the first time.
10…Has won a major international trophy (club or country) before turning 21 and after turning 35.
P.S. If you’d like to try your hand at a Weekend Quiz, drop me a note with your questions at laurie[at]theoffside[dot]com.
