Weekend Quiz: You Give Me the Answers
By: Laurie | June 13th, 2009
Different twist to the quiz this weekend. Here are the rules:
We’re playing “Name a Player Who…?” I’ll give you a question and you give me the name of a player who would be an answer to that question.
All of these questions have multiple answers, but your answer counts only if nobody else above you in the comments has given the same answer. So if you see a question and think Cristiano Ronaldo, but the person right above you has already named him, you have to come up with someone else or it won’t count. So yes, it does pay to answer early.
Also, because I have multiple relatives in town, I’ll need your help in policing the answers. When I go to award points tomorrow, I’m not going to have time to research each and every response. So if I ask, “Name a player who scored an international goal after age 35,” and somebody answers “Lionel Messi,” point it out in to me in the comments.
(Okay, that one I would get on my own. But some of these may get kind of obscure.) In other words, I’ll be relying on those of you who love footy trivia even more than I do to help me out. Alternatively, if you give me links in your own answers that allow me to check them out easily, you will be my newest and bestest friend.
You can name either current or retired players, and you don’t have to answer all questions.
Got it? Here’s the quiz. Scores tomorrow.
Name a player who…
1. …is back finishing his career in the country where he started it after achieving success elsewhere
2. …has a name tattooed somewhere on his body. (Bonus point for describing the relationship with the name, i.e. self, mom, etc.)
3. …has captained both club and country (please name the club)
4. …scored his first international goal before age 20
5. …scored an international goal after age 35
6. …was capped as a full international goalkeeper at age 21 or younger
7. …has been yellow carded for taking his shirt off. (Bonus point for a link to article or photo.) (Oh, what? It’s purely for verification purposes.)
8. …had a father who was also a top-flight footballer.
9. …had his number retired
10. …got 110+ international caps
11. …has been banned from football for a period longer than six months. (Name the infraction.)
12. …has all the winners medals: domestic league, domestic cup, major continental trophy (Champions League or Copa Sudamericana etc), international continental trophy (Copa América , Euros, Asian Cup etc), World Cup.
13. …has a highlight video on YouTube/Dailymotion etc. set to the ubiquitous “10% luck, 20% skill” song. (Please give us the link.)

Agreed! The biggest problem will be continuing to come up with original questions. If anyone has ideas, email me at laurie[at]theoffside[dot]com.
