Weekend Recap: Cheers and Tears
By: Laurie | April 14th, 2008
A quick recap of a few of the games from the weekend:
Saturday
US 1-1 Canada, US wins 6-5 on PKs
A recap of this game is here. A late extra-time US goal by Carli Lloyd, followed by an even later extra-time Canada goal by Melissa Tancredi. After seven rounds of penalties, the US won, 6-5. And the US women are the CONCACAF champs!
KC Wizards 0 – 0 Houston Dynamo
Oh! Joy! a nil-nil draw! I didn’t catch the game, so I’ll turn it over to Travis at MLS Offside for a recap:
A bit of a dull game, I can’t say too much because I haven’t found any highlights. From what I’ve read it was a fair result as both teams had their chances and neither could finish. Considering KC conceded three goals three days before, good to grab a clean sheet. The same could be said about the Dynamo who are missing starting keeper Pat Onstad.
PSV Eindhoven 1-1 FC Twente
PSV Eindhoven needed a win to clinch the title. Didn’t happen. Alternatively, they could have clinched it if second-place Ajax had failed to win. If you’ve read the “flaming toilet paper” post, you’ll know that that didn’t happen either. And so PSV has to wait another week, or until the Ajax match is rescheduled, before they can break out that champagne.
PSG 2-3 Nice
Paris St. Germain continued its deathmarch with a late collapse. A win could have pulled them out of relegation risk, and it looked like it was going to happen. They were leading 2-1 in the 85th minute… And then they allowed in two (count ‘em, two) goals. Ouch. The clock is ticking on their dreams of remaining in Ligue 1.
I love Arsenal. This one breaks my heart. It wasn’t so long ago that their dreams of a quadruple didn’t look that farfetched. Now they’ve got nothing to show for the season. This was a must-win game for them, and in the first half that I saw, they were almost completely dominant. (This was seriously one of the best-played, most exciting halves I’ve seen in ages.) But ManU came from behind and took all three points.
From Goal.com:
Arsenal took the lead against Chelsea a few weeks ago and blew it. They went ahead against Liverpool earlier this week and blew it. And on form, they took the lead against Manchester United at Old Trafford and hit the self destruct button.
Ouch. Just…ouch.

Again Laurie, leaving out the Serie A action..
Milan – Juve
2 – 3
Was a great game to watch, sucked for me though because my team lost, and Bonera is suspended, as well as Ambrosini.Posted from

Ambrosini being suspended is the best news Milan have had all year. He was no where to be seen on saturday, didnt win tackles, didnt make a decent pass (unless it was back to the defenders) and never knew what to do with the ball when he had it. Ancelotti may as well just put a pair of cleats in the middle of the park, they will be more effective than him. Athough, all of the above could be said for Gattuso also, played horrible.

True, as of late, they have both been far, far off of their normal forms… But hey, maybe Carletto will play Gorcouf? I doubt that though, most likely Emmerson…

The day Chris includes an MLS game is the day I include a Serie A. So talk to Chris.

Oh come on. Serie A and the MLS aren’t even in the same universe.

Well, Chris and I agree about one thing!
