Weekend Watch: Diamonds are Forever

unibrow.jpgBy my calculations, the weekend lasts 48 hours, which gives us all plenty of time to watch our favorite teams and to keep an eye on some of the other football action around the world….

Saturday

Urawa Red Diamonds vs. Gamba Osaka
– With a three-point and five-goal cushion heading into the final game of the season, Urawa can afford to lose by two goals at home to Gamba and still lift their first ever J-League title. It will take a miracle, but a huge road win will give Gamba all the marbles.

Torquay vs. Leyton Orient – Just a gentle reminder to the Torquay players. You are not allowed to dive in this FA Cup second round match. Leyton Orient, on the other hand, is more than welcome to show their Greg Louganis skills.

Berwick vs. Elgin – Elgin is at the bottom of the table in the Scottish third division, which means that if we gathered 11 readers from The Offside and suited up we would probably win by a couple of goals. Anyone free to play on Saturday?

Málaga vs. Real Madrid Castilla – Which Real Madrid is more real? The one in La Liga or the side that is currently mid-table in Spain’s second division? Do you suppose Real Madrid Castilla lures unsuspecting players in with the promise of playing for Real Madrid? That would be pretty tricky, sis.

Sunday

Toluca vs. Pachuca – After playing to a 1-1 draw earlier this week, these two teams are back at it again in the second leg of the Mexican league semifinals. Is it me or does it seem like there are nothing but playoff games in Mexico? Must be that crazy two seasons per year thing…

Estrela Amadora vs. CD Nacional de Madeira – Even with a player named Eusebio on their roster, Estreal Amadora could be headed for relegation in Portugal. CD Nacional de Madeira, on the other hand, is off to a decent start and they might just give you a toaster if you sign up for one of their bank accounts.

Universidad Católica vs. Audax Italiano – The Catholics square off against the Italians. Which Chilean side will Vatican City support?
