Weekend Watch: Dressed for a Ball

You could spend the weekend communing with nature, reconnecting with friends and family, helping out those less fortunate than you or sitting on your butt watching great football from leagues the world over. I vote for the sitting on the butt option. There are some tasty tilts taking place over the next 48 hours. Here are but a few.

Saturday

Chelsea v Manchester City – Can Manchester City supplant Chelsea in the Big Four this season? Inquiring minds will want to tune in to see.

Cove Rangers v Keith – Who is this Keith character and how is it possible for him to be playing an entire football team? It turns out that Keith are an amateur side in Scotland that have advanced to the second round of the Scottish Cup to face a Cove Rangers side that has a history of doing reasonably well in the competition.

Schalke 04 v Werder Bremen – A pair of Champions League teams meet in the Bundesliga with Schalke desperately trying to stay within sniffing distance of the top of the table and Bremen trying to keep pace with Bayern Munich.

New England Revolution v New York Red Bulls – Only an extremely congested stretch of an interstate separates these two rivals. Well, that, and a history of success for the Revolution and a history of misery for New York. Will that change this year? It is MLS playoff time so drink the kool-aid and have a look.

Sunday

Liverpool v Arsenal – One side is coming off a Champions League masterpiece. The other side is coming off a stinker. Does any of that really matter when these two big boys meet?

Sevilla v Valencia – Through eight games, Valencia have not lost in LA Liga. Sevilla on the other hand have tasted defeat four times and find themselves in 11th place in the table. Valencia come in after a disappointing loss to Rosenborg in the Champions League. Who will be managing Sevilla?

AC Milan v Roma – Will Milan’s dominant Champions League performance Wednesday be the catalyst to turn their season around? Will Roma survive without Totti? Will the players on the pitch have hair that will make you envious? These are but a few of the reasons to take an interest in this one.

FC Dallas v Houston Dynamo – Football in Texas on Sunday the way it is meant to be played. The defending MLS Cup champion Dyanmo kick off their defense against a Dallas side that is capable of making a deep playoff run.

Surely there is a game or three worthy of our attention that I have missed. Which game(s) have your heart going pitter patter this weekend?

It has to be Harrogate Railway Athletic v. Harrogate Town in the FA Cup 4th Qualifying round. It doesn’t get any bigger in north Yorkshire
