Weekend Watch: If the hat fits

weekend-watch.jpgThe work week has come to a close and now the real work begins: figuring out how to absorb as much football over a 48-hour period as possible. Fire up the satellite, pray to the Internet pirates that your favorite team will be shown and keep an eye on some of these matches.

Saturday

Barnet vs. Plymouth – Is there a bigger tilt in the fourth round of the FA Cup than this one? You bet, but since this is a competition where the underdogs come to the forefront why not take an interest in League Two Barnet as they take on the Pilgrims from Plymouth Argyle, another club that has jumped on the themed-funeral bandwagon.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Schalke 04 – No more slacking in Germany as the Bundesliga is back in full force from its winter break. Schake 04 are hoping to pick up where they left off and to keep pace with Werder Bremen atop the table.

RBC Roosendaal vs. FC Emmen VV – If the rapper Eminem were to own a team it would likely have a name similar to the Dutch Eerste Divisi side FC Emmen VV.

Singapore vs. Malaysia – Sharing the same peninsula, these two neighbors will rumble in the semifinals of the ASEAN Football Championship. The victor will take on the winner of Sunday’s other semi between Thailand and Vietnam.

Sunday

TP Mazembe Englebert vs. Police XI – Regardless if you are walking down the street or playing a team from Botswana in the African Champions League it is always best to avoid fucking with the Police, especially that guy Sting.

Novo Hamburgo vs. Guarany – It is not hard to believe that the Germans have played a part in the history of the city of Novo Hamburgo considering its name. Whether or not the Brazilian club that bears the name plays a German style in Brazil’s Guacho competition remains to be seen. They did play to a 0-0 draw in their first match of the season if that is any indication.

Real Betis vs. Valencia – If you’ve seen them play this year you can attest to the fact that Real Betis are real bad. It is hard to believe that it was just last year that they were playing in the Champions League. This year they are playing for survival and will try to escape the relegation zone by picking up three points against fourth place Valencia.

Jalapa vs. Marquense – Playing more like a Porsche than a Jalopy, Jalapa have gotten off to a torrid start in the Guatemala Torneo Clasura, winning their first three games. They’ll try to tame the Lions from Marquense today.
