Weekend Watch: It didn’t end with the final M*A*S*H Episode
By: Bob | December 8th, 2006
There are plenty of amazing and important matches this weekend and some of them might even involve your favorite team. While you are screaming for the lads at the top of your lungs, here are some other matches worth keeping an eye on during that 48-hour period known as the weekend.
Saturday, December 9
North Korea vs. South Korea – It is always a war when these two countries meet and it should be no different when they square off in the quarter-finals of the Asian Cup. Unfortunately the game is being played in Qatar and not at the DMZ where armed guards are too busy trying not to start World War 3.
FIFA Interactive World Cup – Video gamers from Antarctica to Zimbabwe will get their geek on as they mash button B and do an x-y combo to make their FIFA ‘07 men move like they’ve never moved before. I’m still waiting for an Atari Pitfall world championship tournament. Any takers?
Mamelodi Sundowns vs. Ajax Cape Town – The Sundowns from Mamelodi are in fourth place in the South Africa Premiership but in my mind they trail only the Jomo Cosmos in the competition for coolest team name in the league.
CD FAS vs. Alianza FC – Don’t look now but they are already playing the second leg of the semifinals in El Salvador. Time just flies by if you aren’t paying close attention. The first leg ended in a 0-0 draw, but I’m assuming you knew that.
Sunday, December 10
Auckland City vs. Al Ahly Cairo – A semi-pro team from New Zealand facing a traditional power from Egypt in a match played in Japan. Yes, the FIFA Club World Cup is back, bigger and better than ever before. Too bad many of us will be asleep when these games are played because they can be fun.
Lazio vs. Roma – If you happen to be in Rome, the 90 minutes during this match would be an excellent time to get some shopping done because everyone in the city is likely to be glued to the telly watching these two teams remind each other that they aren’t the best of friends.
Go Ahead Eagles vs. FC Zwolle – A team with a name like Go Ahead Eagles must be a cheerleader’s fantasy. In this case, the team plays in the Dutch Eerste Divisie, which I’ve never seen before so they may or may not have cheerleaders.
Toluca vs. Guadalajara Chivas – The first leg in the Mexican League Final ended in a 1-1 draw so you can bet that the 90 minutes on Sunday will belong to the sit-on-the-edge-of-your-seat category of games.
