Weekend Watch: Look out, Runaway Brakes!

remote.jpgWith the winter break coming to a close in many leagues and domestic cup action heating up, there is little excuse to leave the couch this weekend. Here’s a look at some games you should keep an eye on while you learn your ABCs and cheer your lads to victory.

Saturday

Leamington vs. Westfields – It is history in the making as the Lemington Brakes run away with the Midland Alliance title in England. The Brakes have won 16 in a row and are 19 clear at the top of the table, outscoring their opponents 57-18 along the way.

Tamworth vs. Norwich – It is the Lambs against the Canaries in a match of extremely intimidating mascot names. The Lambs from Tamworth have struggled in Nationwide Conference play but as is often the case they have been on form in the FA Cup, advancing to a third round tilt against Championship side Norwich.

Morton vs. Kilmarnock – If you are the manager of Kilmarnock, and I know you want to be since you are reading this blog, you aren’t looking forward to this Scottish Cup tie. Nine, count em nine, first team players are injured for what could be a brutal one at Morton’s always tricky Cappielow Park.

Atlético Madrid vs. Gimnastic de Tarragona – La Liga is back in action with Gimnastic de Tarragona likely to remain in last place after they take on Atletico in Madrid.

Sunday

Nantes vs. Guingamp – Hide the women and children, Fabien Barthez is set to make his return to football in this French Cup thriller. Nantes has struggled in Ligue 1 and would like nothing more than to see Barthez stand in goal smoking a pack of cigarettes while they score early and often against Second Division Guingamp.

Amazulu vs. Jomo Cosmos – Amazulu has been anything but amazing in South Africa’s Premiership. They are at the bottom of the table looking up, but don’t count them out at home against a very ordinary Jomo Cosmos team.
