Weekend Watch: Nice Guys Finish Last
By: Bob | September 29th, 2006
Some games in the next 48 hours that will make the Beautiful Game exactly that….
Saturday
Arbroath vs. Elgin City FC – Someone has to finish last in Scotland’s third division and this year that someone is a dude named Elgin. Poor guy has zero points from eight matches and faces second place Arbroath on the road this week.
Crewe vs. Carlisle United – The past two years Carlisle has been promoted. They are currently in third place in the English League standings and hopeful of picking up points against the very middle of the pack Crewe.
Los Angeles vs. Chivas USA – Don’t look now but this LA derby match actually has some meaning with the Galaxy three points behind fellow stadium mates Chivas in the Western Conference table
Sunday
Portuguesa vs. U.A. Maracaibo – The top two teams square off in Venezuela and you’ll hardly smell sulfur in the air. Portuguesa, by the way, is one of 23 states in Venezuela. Remember that the next time you play pub trivia.
Melbourne Victory vs. Queensland Roar – We’re big fans of Australia’s A-League but they probably could come up with some more creative nicknames for their teams.
FC Groningen vs. Vitesse Arnhem – Doh! Every time we see the name of the Dutch team FC Groningen we confuse it with the Simpsons creator Matt Groening. Dyslexia is a bitch sometimes.
