Weekend Watch Recap: Kunstoppable
By: Daryl | January 14th, 2008
Catching up on all the matches from our Weekend Watch, where El Kun was on the scoresheet again…
Saturday:
Feyenoord Rotterdam 0-1 PSV Eindhoven: PSV and Feyenoord began the game level on 36 points at the top of the Eredivisie, with PSV sitting on top only due to goal difference. Otman Bakka’s lone goal gave PSV a 1-0 win and a three point lead, and also means PSV have done the double over Feyenoord for this season.
Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham Hotspur: Nico Anelka was all smiles as he made his debut, and put in an impressive showing that only lacked a goal. Paul Robinson sat on the Spurs bench again as Juliano Belletti unleashed his second long range wondergoal of the season and Shaun Wright-Phillips scored an impressive second. Jose who?
Lyon 3-2 Toulouse: League leaders Lyon were temporarily behind at home to Toulouse through an Anthony Réveillère own goal. But Hatem Ben Arfa levelled, Juninho Pernambucano scored yet another free kick (does he even have to try?) before Karim Benzema put Toulouse to bed.
Interliga Finals: Atlas beat San Luis 3-0 in the 9:00 kick off at the Home Depot Center to book their spot in the Copa Libertadores, but the second game is where the drama was at. América and Cruz Azul was 2-2 after 90 minutes and 3-3 after extra time, before América won 5-3 on penalties after Craz Azul’s Christian Riveros’ hit the bar with his spot-kick. Check out this brilliant bit of fan footage of Riveros’ penalty. But be warned that it’s NSFW, unless you turn the volume way down.
Sunday:
AC Milan 5-2 Napoli Pato’s debut goal got all the attention as AC Milan wore down Napoli in an end to end game. But, almost unnoticed, Ronaldo (not the pretty one) scored both the first goal and what turned out to be the winning goal. The big man is back.
Dempo Goa 4-1 Sporting Clube de Goa: Dempo maintained top spot in the I-League and kept their unbeaten record intact, crushing SC de Goa with a hat-trick from Nigerian Ranti Martins.
Atlético Madrid 1-0 Valencia: Young Argentine Ever Banega made his Valencia debut, and played 45 decent minutes for his new team. But it was fellow Argentine Sergio Agüero who made sure of all thee points for Atlético. Timo Hildebrand had been having a great game in goal for Valencia, but blew it when he dropped this clanger.
