Weekend Watch: Someone has to wear the pants

By: Bob | March 16th, 2007

pants.jpgGames, games, everywhere there’s games. The football fun never stops and this weekend is no exception. There are some real beauties on store for the footie fan and I have no doubt that you will enjoy each and every second of your Saturday and Sunday. Here are a few games to think about while you are pretend to be Irish for the day and while you support your local lads.

Saturday

CSKA Sofia v Litex Lovech - You know it is a big game in Bulgaria when they bring in a foreign referee. Italian referee Matteo Trefoloni will officiate what will surely be a heated contest between second place CSKA and fourth place Litex. It is the third time this season a foreign referee has called a match in Bulgaria.

FC Porto v Sporting Lisbon - You can bet your bottom euro that Benfica will be keeping a close eye on this match. Porto is in first place with 52 points. Sporting Lisbon is in third place with 43 points. Benfica is in the middle of the threesome with 48 points. This could be the beginning of the end or the beginning of the beginning. Speaking of beginning, we’re working on getting a Portugal Offside blog up and running. Stay tuned.

Lokomotiv Moscow v. Rubin Kazan - After reading Igor’s fine previews off all the Russia League Football teams I am fully behind the brothers from Tatarstan, Rubin Kazan. Go ahead and adopt your own team. Russian football is fun. Up the Rube!

Sunday

Nagoya Grampus Eight v Albirex Niigata - Your Wikipedia fact of the week about Japan’s Nagoya Grampus Eight: “The team’s name is derived from the two most prominent symbols of Nagoya: the two golden grampus dolphins on the top of Nagoya Castle, and the Maru-Hachi (Circle eight), the city’s official symbol.” The Dolphin Castle Eight also happen to be in first place in the J-League early in the campaign.

America v Guadalajara - It is time for another rendition of El Clasico de Clasicos and based on the number of vulgarity laden comments received each week on that post I think it safe to say that the fans of these two clubs don’t like each other very much.

Kilmarnock v. Hibernian - It is the Scottish CIS Insurance Cup Final and the winner will save 10% on their auto insurance.
