Weekend Watch: Win One for Borat
By: Bob | October 6th, 2006
Euro 2008 qualifying takes center stage this weekend and there really only is one match in that competition to watch. Here are a handful of football fun to make your weekend merry and bright….
Saturday
Kazakhstan vs. Poland – The Offside’s adopted national team plays host to a Poland team that just doesn’t know how difficult it is to play in Central Asia. The Snow Leopards have started off Euro 2008 qualifying with two draws and I expect nothing less than 3 points from this one.
Kansas City vs Chivas USA – The second to last weekend of MLS action sees a bunch of teams scrambling for their playoff lives, including the Wizards who are a mere point behind the Red Bulls, a team they will face next weekend.
Veracruz vs. Santos – Winless in their first 11 games in Mexican league play, Santos heads to the lovely city of Veracruz where they likely will make it 12 in a row without a win.
Iwata vs. Gamba Osaka – Pretty much a must win game for Gamba, who are tied with Urawa Reds atop the J-League table. Don’t count out Iwata in this one. They are better than their mid-table record indicates.
Sunday
Carabobo vs Aragua – Two mid-level Venezuelan teams meet in a battle that probably won’t be as fierce as the Battle of Carabobo 1821. This was, of course, a decisive battle in the war of independence from Spain.
Port Vale vs Rotherham – Things aren’t looking too hot for English Division One side Rotherham. They were deducted 10 points for entering administration, putting them four points clear at the bottom of the table.
Rentistas vs. Defensor Sporting – The hosts Rentistas look to own Defensor Sporting in action from Uruguay. Rentistas would rent a victory from anyone at this point. They’ve started the season without a win in six straight.
