What to Watch This Weekend

By: Daryl | September 26th, 2008

Premier League - Everton vs Liverpool
When: Saturday, Septemmber 27, 12:45 GMT
Where: Goodison Park
Why: Some early afternoon red vs blue action in the Merseyside derby. It’s maybe second to the Liverpool vs Man Utd rivalry these days, but still nice and fiery. Just ask Phil Neville. The Toffees are hoping for a repeat of 2006 while Liverpool Offside predicts a 3-0 win.

La Liga - Espanyol vs Barcelona
When: Saturday, Septemmber 27, 22:00 CET
Where: Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys
Why: It’s the Barcelona derby, with Barca making the short trip across town to face Espanyol. The teams are level on seven points, and Barca need a win to kickstart their title challenge. According to Barcelona Offside: This means war.

Italy Serie A - AC Milan vs Inter Milan
When: Sunday, Septemmber 28, 20:30 CET
Where: San Siro, of course
Why: It’s the 171st Derby Della Madonnina. It’s Jose Mourinho’s first with Inter, so we’ll see what sort of controversy he can stir up. Can Shevchenko re-endear himself to Milan fans with a derby goal? Can Ronaldinho deliver on some of his early season promise? All will be revealed Sunday night, should be good.

Brasil Série A - Internacional vs Grêmio
When: Sunday, September 28, 18:10 BRT
Where: Beira-Rio
Why: It’s the Gre-Nal derby in Porto-Alegre. Pressure is on Grêmio as they’re just one point clear of Palmeiras in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, so they play for both pride and points.
Streaming: Here.

Bundesliga - Hannover vs Bayern Munich
When: Saturday, Septemmber 27, 15:30 CET
Where: AWD-Arena
Why: Bayern were handed a 5-2 spanking by Werder Bremen last week, so time to get themselves back on track. And what better way than by re-introducing a fit-again Franck Ribery? The midfielder is so key to the Bayern revival that some German papers are calling him Monsieur Hoffnung (Mr. Hope, in a Franco-German hybrid language). No pressure then Franck.

    TFC - Houston Dynamo.

Houston is the best team in the West (if not the league), while TFC really needs the 3 points to keep their playoff hopes alive. Also, witness the homecoming of local lad Dwayne De Rosario.
