When Goalkeepers Score…
By: Daryl | May 7th, 2008This magnificent strike is from Montgomeryshire Division Two in England, on April 26th. Montgomery Town goalkeeper Steve Goodwin was taking a free kick 78 yards away from the opposition goal, when his manager told him the opposition keeper was off his line. So he struck at goal and in it went. Beauty.
Montgomery MP Lembit Opik, apparently not content with just enjoying the goal on YouTube like the rest of us, has tabled a motion in the House of Commons to have Goodwin’s goal recognized as “one of the greatest and most spectacular goals scored in the history of British football.”
Here’s how Goodwin describes the goal:
“It was coming towards the end of the game and I was just going to kick the ball into the corner to waste time because we were 1-0 up. But our manager was shouting on the sidelines that the keeper was off his line. So I looked up and saw where the keeper was standing and thought I’d have a go. I took a few more steps back, lumped it and in it went.”

And here are several other goals from goalkeepers, to keep Goodwin company:
Peter Schmeichel for Man Utd
Paul Robinson header for Spurs
Paul Robinson’s long long ranger against Ben Foster (on 1:25 of video, Robinson won’t want you watching the first bit)
Unknown, but good.
From the J-League
Also unknown (but somewhere where they drink Smithwicks)
Jimmy Glass’s goal that saved Carlisle United from relegation in the final seconds of the season
And of course no collection would be complete without Roger Ceni.
Or José Luis Chilavert
Brad Friedel (thanks Lucas)
If you know of any other goalscoring goalkeeper videos, please let us know in the comments and we’ll add it to the collection…

Cheers Lucas, it’s been added.
I also remember Peter Schmeichel scoring a cracking volley for Villa. If anyone spots a video of that, please let me know.
