Who Owns Carlos Tevez Anyway?

By: Daryl | October 16th, 2008

Latest news from transfer rumour machine/newspaper Marca is that Real Madrid want Man Utd’s Carlos Tevez. You might be thinking that transfers between Man Utd and Real Madrid are unlikely in the wake of the Cristiano Ronaldo saga, but this one’s a little more complicated that that.

I don’t fully understand the situation, but seems Carlos Tevez is technically on loan at Man Utd and his registration is still owned by Kia Joorabchian’s Media Sports Investments. According to The Guardian’s translation of Marca’s story:

“Manchester United must pay €37m (£28.8m) to MSI before January 30. If they don’t, Tevez will effectively be owned by MSI, and Real Madrid will set the wheels in motion to bring him to the Bernabeu next season.

“[Madrid manager] Bernd Schuster has made it clear that the signing of a world class striker must be a priority for next season,” continues the report. “[Sporting director Predrag] Mijatovic agrees with him.”

Following all the “third party ownership” uproar when Carlos Tevez played for West Ham (which is still going on) it seems the exact details of Carlos Tevez’s current registration situation are being kept out of the headlines.

As I understand it (which I possibly don’t) the FA approved the Tevez to Man Utd loan deal and it’s all above board. But it still sounds a lot like third party ownership to me (with MSI being the third party.) I’m sure the FA will be glad to see Tevez properly signed up and Kia Joorabchian out of the picture.

The question is: will Man Utd want to pay €37m for Tevez now they have Berbatov? Or will the prospect of losing Tevez to Madrid provide the club with some extra motivation to sign him permanently?

If we’re dumb enough to let him go, then I may cry… he’s been one of (if not the) best players this season…

is tevez a world class striker?
certainly a quality quality player… but not really an out and out striker, and is he world class?

tevez is definitely a world class striker…when he gets consistent playing time, he scores, regularly.. he’s most definitely a better striker than rooney even though carlos seems to be the odd man out at united… id actually bench rooney and start carlos…

ya so true…Bobby…old apple …you need to get out of this moment in the EPL..where Tevez is somewhat lacking confidence …maybe due to Fergie’s policy of always choosing Rooney and emergence of Berbatov… last season.. he was awesome..it is true he comes back more often than needed, but so did Rooney and he is better than Rooney any day of the year… no question..

he’s just at the wrong place at the wrong time… I think realistically if United let CRonaldo go next season then it will pave the way for Tevez, Rooney and Berbatov trinity…no reason why that won’t work either..

Didn’t Ferguson say that he wasa going to rotate strikers? Everyone acts like Tevez not starting every game for the entire season means he’s leaving. Berbatov has had like what, 4 or 5 games, and if he hadn’t started those games the media would have ripped United for paying 30 mil for a backup.

On a side note, I know he’s not the best looking dude, but I feel like Daryl went out of his way to find a pic of Carlitos that makes him look even worse than usual

Can we all chip in together on The Offside and buy Tevez? Then we can be the third party, it’ll be brilliant.

That sounds like a plan. Then we could loan him out to different clubs around the world each week.

tevez is probably as a pure goal scorer in the top 5 for best in the world. He is lethal in the box and has great vision. I think manU shouldnt sign him just because they have an abundance of strikers as it is. That said fergie is a very loyal coach, if tevez works his arse off and doesnt complain i can see fergie giving him a permanent spot.

Berbatov’s present at Old Trafford costs Tevez position in first team. Surely, this policy will make United unload him from squad :D
