Who Wants A Mancio?
By: chris | April 2nd, 2008
Why is it that only unwanted goods are put onto eBay for sale? Like, why doesn’t, say, Marcello Lippi secretly put himself on eBay? Could he get his own massive transfer fee that way? (I’m joking, obviously, but there’s a slightly frightened voice in the back of my head saying “someday, way off in Marty McFly’s future, this may very well be standard operating procedure”).
The latest person to go on eBay is unwanted, at least by the fans, and perhaps lame duck coach of Inter Roberto Mancini. Funny, because the last two players I recall going on eBay (Dida and Christian Chivu) both also ply their trade in Milan (Inter winning the earlier eBay auction for Chivu). I guess those fellers in Milan really know how to work the internet machine.
The seller seems to have targeted a specific consumer group, one known for throwing silly money at silly things:
“I am a top Italian coach, although I can’t provide my name for privacy reasons.
“I’m in a well-paid job and I’ve won lots of Italian competitions in the past.
“But now I have problems with the team, and my boss.
“I love England and I speak better English than Fabio Capello, so please help me as I’d love to be a big team coach.”
I think everyone would beg to differ with the distinction as a “top coach”. The guy has zero understanding of tactics, and if it were down to X’s and O’s, Inter would be just as well off with a mango patrolling the sidelines.
There’s been a rumor on the seller, but no name, just the initials: “MM”.
(Or could it have been JM?)
