Wii? Non! Not if You’re French
By: Laurie | March 12th, 2008
Xbox? Okay. Playstation? Fine. Gameboys? No problem.
But heaven forbid Raymond Domenech’s French boys should pick up a Wii.
You have no idea how much effort and time I have wasted in two languages trying to trace this back to an original source.
(How do you say Nintendo Wii in French? Nintendo Wii. Just so you know. But you have to say it with a French accent.)
I’m not finding an actual news article, but I’m finding it in a US blog. And a French blog, which says it came from TéléFoot. So between the two of them, it must be true, right?
It seems that Domenech, the sélectionneur for the France National Team, has, in fact, banned the Wii for French players, at least before Euros. The reason? Somebody might get hurt.
Or rather, somebody did: the sélectionneur himself. According to the French blog (which, again, says it’s quoting from the TV show TéléFoot), Raymond spent two days recovering after injuring his shoulder in a Wii boxing match.
“It is a physical exercise. It is [what caused] my tendinitis because I played a boxing match. I could not move my shoulder for two days.”
I know how he feels. I overtaxed my index finger playing Bejeweled months ago and it’s still not back to normal.
So sorry, French boys. Guess you’re going to have to stick to FIFA ‘08.
