Wikipedia Still Critical, But Much More Polite.

By: chris | December 19th, 2008

You know how when you were a kid having your parents be “disappointed” in you was infinitely worse than the Fergie hair dryer treatment (lite, of course – and unless you’re David Beckham)? That’s what this is: the “disappointed” Wikipedia entry for Gilberto of Tottenham. After his awful, awful first half against Spartak which saw the Russians go up 2-0, he came off at half and Tottenham won the second stanza 2-0 for a draw which saw them into the knockouts. Cause/effect/wikipedia.

At least Spurs fans are more polite than Madridistas. It’s been amended slightly since then to be even a bit more polite.

Oh, and it was his last game as a Spur, according to Harry Redknapp…

“I don’t really think he has a future here,” Redknapp said in The Sun. “The boy doesn’t want to play here, he doesn’t feel confident playing here. I think he was happy to come off at half-time.”

Not exactly the best encore.

Thanks to George K. for the tip. And we love Wikipedia screenshots, so if you come across a brilliant one send it to tips[at]theoffside[dot]com. But just one thing: don’t screenshot your own doings…..and I mean that in every way possible.

that’s brilliant, almost as good as the greatest footie related wikipedia search ever when I found out that frank ribery’s favorite movie growing up was “Scarface” listed under his personal life for about a month during world cup 2006.

You know, as entertaining as they may be, it is just too easy to manufacture these “edited wiki entries” news pieces. Not accusing you of anything Chris, but you said so yourself: “don’t screenshot your own doings”. You’re running a serious risk that in fact, The Offside mailbox will only get flooded with these.

So ultimately I think, the sheer entertainment value will have to come from the author’s originality at editing, and his (colourful) language selection. Hoping to see something more creative than “garbage”, “shite”, and “fu** off you useless piece of ****” in the future… :)
