Women’s World Cup Starts With a Flourish

By: Inara | September 10th, 2007

wwc.jpgWhile women’s football doesn’t boast as many followers as the men’s, their games can be just as fun to watch and are growing in popularity. The tournament is taking place in China, but FIFA have made it surprisingly easy to watch the matches. FIFA.com TV will stream either the games or the highlights depending on territory, and ESPN and ABC will be broadcasting every single match in the United States (schedule).

FIFA’s website also offers up-to-date results, match recaps, and photos.

The 16 teams in the tournament this year include defending champions Germany (who began their campaign with an 11-0 win over Argentina), as well as the favorites, China and the USA, with North Korea, Brazil, and Sweden promising to make several upsets. Read du Nord’s excellent overview of the participating teams.

At the very least, there will be some interesting commercials.
