You Know Zlatan?

By: chris | October 5th, 2008

Francesco Antonioli knows Zlatan.

Someone once called him half-gangster, half-ballerina. Got the ballerina part right for sure, because the pure athleticism required to even attempt that shot is astounding. To execute? Unthinkable.

(He’s humble, too.)

The goal may have been luck, but the confidence to attempt something like that tells a better story of the type of player that Zlatan is. He is a genuis, and really a joy to watch. This goal is only icing on the cake for a guy who can score goals from some fantastic touches.

Alright, one more comment, how can you say only the great geniuses of football would think to do something like that?
He stuck out a freakin foot.
    That’s all.
    Highschool kids
    in my school
    do this
    in practice
    and score. It’s l-u-c-k.

Ibra may be a great player. I don’t think anyone is disputing his ability. But this goal is not a demonstration of his ability. It is a lucky goal pure and simple. Ibra has had many goals that involved way more skill than this one.

Pure luck and dangerous play. This kick was for taekwondo tournament, not a football game, why can’t you understand?? He almost took the guys head off. If Gattuso make challenge like this in mid he will be cursed forever and spitted over, but when it was Zlatan (and I do know that he is incredibly talented TEAM player :O ) OH MY GOD!!! Reactions reach orgasmic proportions. It was a fluke – same like missing empty net from a meter, if know what I mean.

The comments make me lol. Ursus is right. You can’t expect this result if the player doesn’t even have the confidence to try such a shot.

Zlatan’s growth never ceases to amaze me. I remember clearly when he stole Kallstrom’s penalty and now he’s giving them away. At any rate, he’s only going to get better.

It’s somewhere in between. It required both luck and skill. A lot of both.

Luck? It’s a fantastic piece of skill well executed. You need a bit of luck to pull of a bicycle kick but it doesn’t make it any less of a skill.

Ibra is so frustrating. Yes, he makes this amazing goal (which Adriano says they practice in training) but then misses an open goal later in the same match.

Re Mourinho: sure, Inter have not had the same start to the season that they have had for the last two years, but I still like the guy. He is entertaining in the press, the squad all seem to like him, and I think that the team has real potential. It may take him a while to make things go the way he wants them too, but that is always the case with a new coach. I say it is too soon to judge his success or failure.

Why do people feel the need to be arrogant douchebags on the internet? Is it really necessary?

    lol @ rob…

mele… relax bro… i think you missed the point… yes it was luck that the ball went in, but to even have the idea to try it and put your body in that position and to be able to steer in the direction of the goal, is where the skill comes in… just see if you could even get your heel that high…zlat is a tall dude, so his heel mustve been atleast 5 feet off the ground… this was about 90% skill, 10% luck..if u cant see that, thats your problem..

    omg I love this goal.
I am a HUGE Inter supporter and a great fan of Zlatan.
He is an amazing player, there is no way you can go around the fact.
I am not really sure if the goal is luck or skill, I think it is most likely a bit of both. The one thing you can’t deny is the fact that it is one hell of an entertaining goal! =]
    Forza Inter!

Ibra waited for the ball, he did stick his foot out but it wasn’t until the ball was in the position that he needed it to be that he moved his foot looking for the contact…he wasn’t hoping for contact, he looked for the contact, he pushes the ball, it’s not like the ball merely bounced off his foot, which is probably what happens in Mele’s school.
