You’ll want to Separate your Dark Laundry from your Jose Mourinho
By: Bob | April 24th, 2007
The legend of Jose Mourinho grows. On the eve of Wednesday’s Champions League match between Chelsea and Liverpool, a couple of newspapers are reporting that the man who has blessed us all with more memorable quotes than Bartlett’s is also pretty handy at covert operations.
According to the reports, Mourinho hid in a laundry basket to escape detection two years ago when he was banned from the Champions League quarterfinals against Bayern Munich. The Times has the details. The basic gist:
Both the Mail and The Times said Mourinho arrived early at the ground, watched the game on a TV in a dressing room and delivered the pre-match and halftime talks.
Both papers alleged that about 10 minutes before the end of the game, which Chelsea won 4-2, the manager clambered into one of the laundry skips.
He was then wheeled away to Stamford Bridge leisure club where it was claimed he had spent the entire evening.
The image of Jose Mourinho hiding under some dirty towels is priceless. Chelsea have brushed off the allegations.
It is also worth noting that one of the commentors on this very site – BlueBlood58 - made reference to Mourinho hiding in a laundry basket back on September 14, 2006. The Offside is therefore going to take credit for breaking this story. You know where to come first to read about dirty laundry!

What’s so great is that every new story fits right into the persona the media have created for him. He’s pretty much the perfect delightful evil genius.
