Zagreb are Dinamo under Branko Ivankovic

This is the time of year when the number of managers standing in the unemployment line grows exponentially. Chairmen are fed up with the club’s poor starts or in the case of leagues like MLS they are looking for a change after a disappointing season. The Guardian has a look at some managerial stints that just didn’t turn out the way everyone hoped they would when the managers stood in front of the cameras when they were announced. While stories of woe are always fun to read, how about do something different around these parts and celebrate a manager’s success.
It was about a year ago that Branko Ivankovic took over the job of managing Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia. How has he done in that past year? Get this, his team has lost once in 35 games. What’s even more impressive is that the one lost goes along with 34 wins. Thirty-four wins in thirty-five games. That is amazing no matter what league your team is playing in.
During that time Dinamo Zagreb have outscored their opponents 100-24 and have captured the league and domestic cup. They are well on their way to a repeat performance this season, twenty points clear at the top after 15 games.
It is safe to say that Ivankovic has a bit of job security at the moment.
